Life Updates
Oct. 5th, 2007 01:05 amI realized I haven't blogged in a while, and a lot has happened.
I have had a radical change in my job. I still work at the sheltered workshop for people with disabilities. Before I was a case manager/babysitter with a caseload of about 20 people that I had to provide personal assistance to, listen to them complain, try to get them to smile, and help them learn how to work. Now I am not responsible for any direct care, but I am responsible for paperwork, monthly reports, etc. for most of the clients at our workshop. The change came because all the management likes the way I do paperwork, and they say I am better at it than anyone has ever been before. Whether or not that is actually true, it is a nice boost to my ego.
I have been doing a lot of SCA things, as well. I really need to get a few more things settled, but it has been coming along. I went to Phoenix last weekend for the Estrella War Treaty negotiations. It was good to see the peeps and get some bid-ness taken care of, and I felt soooo spoiled! I got to hang out with friends, got to meet new people, got to eat good food (and lots of it), and most of all, got to realize that I am in a privileged position in the SCA. How many people, even out of just the people that attend Estrella War, get to be part of decision making processes like that? Even though I wasn't sitting at the table during the actual treaty negotiations (thank gods - it took forever!), I still am part of that process.
And yes, before someone else says it, I am aware that the SCA is not real life. But at this level, many of the skills are translatable (is that a word?) into real world skills. Like helping to plan an event with an attendance of 7000+ people. There are people in the "real world" that get paid a lot of money for those kinds of skills.
Another example - I am the Seneschal of my Barony. In non-SCA wording, I can honestly say I am the local chapter president for a non-profit organization. That could go on a resume! If it sounds like I am being defensive, I really am not- it just amazes me sometimes.
I really need to go back to bed now. More updates later. *hugs* to everyone!
