legacy and other thoughts....
Jan. 19th, 2009 12:57 pmI sat down this morning to write a blog about personal accountability, and personal responsibillity. Instead, I was listening to the History Channel biography show about Martin Luther King. The dialogue alluded to a speech about "The Drum Major Instinct," which was delivered at Ebenezer Baptist Church on February 4, 1968. I went on line to look it up, and was profoundly touched by what I read. I have included excerpts below of the things that I think are particularly relevant, not only because today is the day that we honor Dr. King, but because it is the eve of the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States, the first black man to hold that office. It is also a time in our world that poor economy, soaring joblessness, and war. I had thought that watching the show and blogging about this speech would not have anything to do with my original thoughts about personal responsibility, but really, it has a lot to do with it. It also makes me think about what legacy I am leaving by my actions in this life.
