Just because the following two words are pronounced pretty much the same, they ARE NOT the same word.  Anyone who has read an SCA newsletter will know exactly what I mean. 

pop·u·lous       
–adjective

1.  full of residents or inhabitants, as a region; heavily populated.
2.  jammed or crowded with people
3. forming or comprising a large number or quantity.

[Origin: 1400–50; late ME populus < L populōsus


pop·u·lace       
–noun
1. the common people of a community, nation, etc., as distinguished from the higher classes.
2.  all the inhabitants of a place; population.

[Origin: 1565–75; < F < It popolaccio, equiv. to popol(o) people + -accio pejorative suffix]
