There we were at the event last Saturday looking for a bottle opener to open a couple of beers.  And we couldn't find one.  So I looked at my Sun in Splendor** medallion which was sitting on the table because the necklace was broken.  I said to Sean "You could try using that."  He said "Scruffy would be so proud." 

And then we smiled, remembering Scruffy and raising a toast to him once we finally found the bottle opener.

** the Sun in Splendor is Artemisia's grant level service award, for those who don't know.  And it was named in honor of Master Aldwin Longwalker, AKA Scruffy, who has left a huge hole in the universe since he left this mortal plane.  He was known for, among many things, his sense of humor.

Scruffy truly would have been proud. He did leave a huge hole. I think about him periodically at some of the weirdest moments. He is in so many of my earlier SCA memories. I miss him terribly. Thanks for making me think of all the silly Scruffy things, even if I did tear up reading your post.

To Scruffy, may he drive all the other angels in Heaven crazy with his zany sense of humor!

I think there are some medallions wandering around our end of the world with openers built into their backs.... I know there are a few belts with built in openers.

Master Effenwalt's song for Aldwin is still one of my very favorites.
Of course it is a toss up as to whether I will cry or smile while I am singing along.

The world lost a very amazing man with Aldwin's passing.
