ETA (5/2/09):   This is not a new update - I am top posting it to make it easier for people to find.  Please feel free to skip if you have been here before.

Hi there, readers.
I decided it is time to post a blog to talk about who I am.  This may seem redundant to those of you who I have been in touch with for the last 20+ years, but thanks to the wonderfulness that is facebook (and other social networking sites) I have found some people that I thought I would never get to talk to again.  YAY!!

So here's some info about me.  Some of this goes back old-school, and you may think it is too much info, but you don't have to read....   If you are coming here from another site and don't have a LJ account, you are welcome to comment, but comments will be screened here so they may not show up on the list right away.  This is obviously an open post since I am sending people here that might not have live journal accounts.

Anyway, here goes....

Ending up in Montana.... )

origins of my SCA experience.... )...she met the boy she's gonna marry.... )
then there was Utah.... )
You are welcome to go through the archives of my journal here.  There are a number of open entries that will fill in some of the gaps.  There are always  more details, but there is also work today, and I need to get there on time.

Still here

It has been forever since I posted - not because I have nothing to say but because most of what I could say reads to me like Debbie Downer so I delete the posts or make them private as I write them.

I am glad to be back and will be sharing some posts soon.

 Hi all.
I am posting a copy of my Kingdom Seneschal letter for the May, 2011 issue of the Sage Advice (the Artemisian Kingdom Newsletter).  It is true, it hasn't been published yet, but I wanted to share this with people in other places as well.

So, LJ peeps... I realize I haven't been writing a lot of blogs for public or semi-public consumption lately.  I have been doing a lot of private blogging so I can work through the chaos and change in my life without seeming like the world's biggest Eeyore ("Oh... woe is me... life is sooo terrible.") especially when life really isn't so bad.

Anyway...

I have been thinking about the relationships I have with people.  I have blood family, chosen family, SCA people, officers, coworkers, non-SCA friends, and people I interact with here and there.

So my question to myself is:  What are the characteristics that are most important in the people I interact with, and what do I do if the other person doesn't have those characteristics?  And should it change depending on the category of relationship I have with the person?

There are a few particular situations that are vexing me at the moment and I am trying to decide what to do.

I would be interested to hear thoughts on this if anyone cares to share. c

Been a while since I last posted.  Not sure what I have and haven't said, so here's a very quick life update in no particular order.

1)  Been working on wardrobe for Their Majesties Daman and Veronique.  Coronation and Crown Tourney outfits done plus will be working on Pennsic stuff.  Pics soon I promise!

2)  Moved to a new apartment.  Got in here and lost the will to unpack.

3)  Been making a TON of travel plans for this summer.  I have the best hubby ever who has been working his ass off at his job so I can have money for all these trips without him.

4)  Been spending a lot of time contemplating the meaning of friendship and how I implement that in my life.  Spending time with some people getting to know them better, spending some time with friends I have had for a while, and realizing that some people I thought were my friends don't spend nearly as much time and energy on me as I do on them, so I am wondering if they are really my friends or merely acquaintances.  Sometime I will look and see if I have posted a blog here about my bullseye theory as it applies to these things.  If I haven't posted about that I should.

5)  Trying to get a handle on the Kingdom Seneschal job.  Way more intense than I thought, but mostly going OK so far.

Back to my work project with me.  More later.

There's two kinds of people in this world.  You've got your talkers and you've got your doers.  Most people are just talkers.  All they got is talk.  But when all is said and done, it's the doers who change this world.   And when they do that, they change us.  And that's why we never forget them.  So, which one are you?  Do you just talk about it, or do you stand up and do something about it?  Because believe you me, all the rest of it is just coffeehouse bullshit.

I am normally not a vain, preening kind of girl.

But my hair is driving me nuts! It is basically down to my bra line in the back, no bangs, blah. I have been wanting to cut it. Not short-short but so it would look healthy since I have these flyaway frizzy bits around my face when I pull it back in a pony tail (pretty much the only way I wear it).

I know my husband likes my long hair, but I keep thinking it is not healthy so I just want to fix it.

Then I heard some ladies at work last week talking about someone they know who is "just too old to have long hair" and that made me think I am definitely in that category. *lol*

So I am debating about a style and everything, but haven't made up my mind. Any opinions cheerfully accepted.

I posed this one to dukesean . For those that don't know, he is my best friend. So I thought it would be interesting to see what he asked. I expected some challenging questions, but DAMN!

Here they are.

1. Who are your three favorite Knights? One SCA(you can't pick me), one historical and one from Arthurian legend.

2. Would you have become as comfortable with yourself as you are without the SCA?

3. Are the Cubs EVER going to win the World Series?

4. Where will you be living in 20 years?

5. I have the 'Food Giggle'. What do you do that really excites you with uncontrollable giddiness?
======

long answers to short questions - go figure.... )

So there you go – long winded as usual and I hope it was worth the wait.

First of all, [livejournal.com profile] dukesean , I was easily able to answer all of the questions except the one about my "favorite" knights. That one is way harder than the others. Not all of the warriors I am interested in (as far as history goes) were considered "knights" But I am working on it

i am not able to focus or prioritize very well lately. It is making me a bit overwhelmed. And it is hard when I have to do things in such a specific manner not all of which is in my control.

So I revert to the default - making lists. Checking twice. Nobody's being naughty (that I know of) and everyone is being nice. Mostly. Except for... (well never mind. It is the holidaze, not the time for more bitchingandcompaining)

BLAH! :P

I haven't posted in a long time. Since Crown Tourney the first weekend in October. Since then:

Anyway.... I must be getting ready for work now. But I leave you with this.

As Thanksgiving is here, I wanted to mention some of the things for which I am thankful.
1) My husband. I really do love him.
2) My friends and family. I many not be the best about communicating regularly but you are in my heart all the time.
3) That I am healthy and have a place to live. Things could be so much worse.
4) I am grateful for all the love I receive and all the love I am able to give.

Happy thanksgiving everyone.

SOON!
Sean is picking me up in (hopefully) about an hour.  Then car packing, then to Boise and on to Sport of Kings tomorrow.   Looking forward to some time away from the craziness, and hang out time with my BFF.  A drive along the Columbia River gorge.  Super duper excited!  Hope to see some of you there, and get some time to know peeps better.

Reaching outside my comfort zone to teach three new classes - retinue and court stuff.  Ula sent a list that said people signed up for the classes.  YAY!!
Time to check the stuff to make sure I got whatt I need.

I will hopefully have pix and stories to tell when I get home next Monday.  Then it is the final push towards Coronation.  But that comes later.

here is one that fits my mood - it is cool and there is a thunderstorm outside - a wonderful reprieve from the heat of Utah in the summer....  a little Jackson Browne.

http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/song/You_Love_The_Thunder/1311874

When you look over your shoulder
And you see the life that you've left behind
When you think it over do you ever wonder?
What it is that holds your life so close to mine
You love the thunder and you love the rain
What you see revealed within the anger is worth the pain
And before the lightning fades and you surrender
You've got a second to look at the dark side of the man
You love the thunder and you love the rain
You know your hunger like you know your name
And I know you wonder how you ever came
To be a woman in love with a man in search of the flame
Draw the shade and light the fire
For the night that holds you and calls your name
And just like your lover, knows your desire
And the crazy longing that time will never tame
You love the thunder and you love the rain
You know your hunger like you know your name
I got your number if it's still the same
You can dream
But you can never go back the way you came

because that is all there is time for.  I am alive and well, but busy in a good way.  Just thought I would share.  I am looking forward to Labor Day, as it will be the end of much insanities, and the beginning of others.  And probably not what some would think.

hope you, dear readers, are doing well.  I am still reading all posts, though not commenting much.

Bed is calling, now that laundry can go into the dryer.  Work is in 6 hours.  :P

I say to my husband, who is still in bed 15 minutes before his ride to work shows up...
"Honey, don't you need to wake up?"
"No," he replies, "But I do need to get dressed and go to work."

Happy Friday everyone.

I am random today.  Therefore, this post will very likely seem random.

~ Aren't *all* person against person crimes hate crimes?  While I agree that it is bad to seek a particular type of person (black, gay, female etc.) to commit a crime against them, I don't think any crime is good.  I don't think that a white man beating a white man is better  than a white man beating a black man.  IT IS ALL BAD!!!  To separate specific classes of people to give them special protection also, in my opinion, perpetuates the concept of inequality by saying that some people need special or more protection than others.  Everyone deserves equal protection under the law.  And it also irritates me that the Utah government has chosen to use federal stimulus money to continue a task force that investigates and prosecutes crimes committed by undocumented aliens.  I fail to see how that is worth extra special resources above and beyond resources used to fight all crimes.  I am not saying the illegals don't commit bad crimes.  BUT SO DO U.S. CITIZENS!

~ I am wondering where the services that are being cut for people with disabilities comes in the scale from least to most important in the view of the state legislators.  I wonder if it is really on the radar as much as things like, for example, changing the liquor laws.

~Norman Brinker, the man that invented the salad bar, died today.  I think his invention led to the all-you-can-eat buffet and the overgrown portion sizes consumed by the majority of Americans.  I don't blame him.  I just wonder what life would have been like if those things didn't exist.  Vegas wouldn't be the same.

~It should not be difficult for all of us to speak to each other with courtesy and respect that everyone's time is valuable.

~Facebook should have a spell checker for people to use when they make up quizzes.

~Cops in Utah are learning how to resolve crises using mental health treatment techniques.  This is a good thing.  Maybe they can learn how to deal with mentally unstable agitated people with better techniques than guns, tasers, or pepper spray.

~ I really should stop watching the news some times.

~I don't know what I think about "global warming" but I have noticed a substantial change in the weather patterns.  More rain this year.  I live in the desert - don't the clouds know that?

~Mrs. Dash seasoning works well on a lot of foods.  I just finished a bowl of brown rice with broccoli.  Didn't really taste very good until I added some Mrs. Dash.  Not the greatest dinner ever but I can only eat so much salad in life.  Even at a salad bar.

~Am I the only one that finds it annoying/amusing that the mdia is making it sound like it is some kind of tragedy that some people might not have gotten a converter box so their TV might not work.  NOBODY will die because they can't watch t.v.

~I really need to stop watching T.V. news.

 I had a productive day overall. )

good deals on stuff. )
Scheduling foo )

And on a COMPLETELY different note:
NCIS LOS ANGELES!!!  A new show coming in the fall!  I found this blurb on www.cinemablend.com

Among the series picked up by CBS and included on their fall 2009 lineup is NCIS: Los Angeles. Not to be confused by the original and still chugging along, NCIS. Set to air on Tuesday nights, the drama series will follow the world of undercover surveillance at the Office of Special Projects based in L.A.
(there's more on the link if you are interested!!)  Could be good - Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.  We'll see.

All in all, life continues to be made of more win, less fail.  Yay!!!

dametheadee: (excuse me)
I am alive.
I am well.
I am too busy for my own good.
That is all.
More later.
Much luvs.
