This picture by Talon captures a moment that took place very shortly after I arrived at Estrella and it makes me very happy.

Talon's full gallery from Norse Culture Night can be found here:   talentus.smugmug.com/SCA/20110216-Norse-Culture-Night/15955130_ZRThJ

I have posted my pics here:

This is another one that makes me happy - my friend and champion Sir Kazimir Konstantinov of Novgorod.

Posted on behalf of Lord Kazimir.  This is a special battle and is not part of the war point scenarios.  More details will be forthcoming, and please contact him directly with questions.

It is Spring of 1242 and the Teutonic Order rides forth to Novgorod to the crusade. The Bishop has sent them forth to spread the faith to the heathen Rus. They seek to subjugate the pagan peoples of the Motherland. The Rus gather near Lake Peipus to give battle. To stand with the Druzhina and drive the Teutonic horde back whence it came.

The Rus and the Teutonics shall meet upon the field of battle Saturday at Estrella War. All who would do honor to this moment are welcome. Come one and all my Brothers in Arms. All shall be attired in arms and armour appropriate to the Battle of Lake Peipus 1242 to take part in this glorious battle. This moment is a but a mere glimpse and a chance to relive the glory of this piece of history for the Rus and Teutonic alike! We would ask that all prepare kit and make ready to do battle.

We all shall strive to take this opportunity to shine above and beyond. Do all that you can to represent your affiliation be it Rus or Teutonic!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Lord Kazimir Konstantinov

Thank you to King Eduard and Queen Asa of Atenveldt for honoring me with a Star of the Desert - Gules.  According to the Atenveldt award overview, this award is given by the Crown to individuals who give service helping with the running of Estrella war.  Gules is the 1st degree, Azure is the 2nd degree, and Argent is the 3rd and highest degree.

(reference atenveldt.org/Heraldry/OrderofPrecedence/gaid/22.aspx  )

Fortunately, His Majesty is an understanding soul and realized that I was still in shock from receiving the Court Barony when He was reading the names of the recipients.

Summing up Estrella XXVI in a brief blog:

Working with some of the best Royals, retinue, and the best deputy Royal Liaisons EVER!!  Made the job so much easier than it should've been.  Not to say there weren't any glitches but they seemed to be relatively minor and relatively easy to resolve.

Getting hang time with a friend over coffee off site and then getting to see said friend come to the event even though it was a hard thing to do.  It was a big step.

Shenanigans and mischief abounded.  Victory laps.  Trouping about the site following Sean (who had no idea where he was going if you ask me).  Lots of love and laughter.  Feeling super close to people that I already knew and making some new friends too.

Being in the right place at the right time twice in one day.... first time I walked up to the Outlands Prize Tourney just in time to see King Sean and King Eduard fight each other.  I love watching them fight.    Later that night, I arrived at the Outlands party just in time to see a whole bunch of awesome Calontiri singers singing Warrior's Wyrd to my King and Queen.

Beautiful weather overall.

Getting to spend time with some good friends from other Kingdoms and realizing that I am blessed by all the friends I have.

Missing a few people that weren't there.

And the best court bushwack ever.....  I got called into Grand Court by His Majesty of Atenveldt.  I was escorted by the Queen of An Tir.  King Eduard called me a rockstar and got me to do a superhero pose with him (video and photo evidence to follow).  Then I was escorted back to King Sean and Queen Nisa who deeply honored me with a Court Barony.  Complete with coronet made by Baron Tighearnain and Baroness Sibilla.  Apparently many many people knew.  And I had no idea.

Baroness Theodora of Trebizond, OP, Baroness of the Court of Sean IV and Nisa

Has a nice ring to it and means the world to me.  It was the topper to an amazing week.

1.  I was so glad to get to see all the people I saw this year.  It was really great to get in quick visits with a whole bunch of fabulous people.
2. Good road trip companions can make the whole experience better, as well as being some great bonding time.
3.  I got to meet and work with fabulous people this war, and got a new perspective on some people I already knew.
4.  Royalty Liaison can be easy (like it was this year) if you have good communication and fabulous Royals and retinue to work with.  Stress levels with the job were pretty minimal.
5.  People can still surprise me, both for the good and the bad.  Fortunately it was more good than bad.
6.  It is very wierd for me having people I don't remember knowing stopping me on merchant's row and saying "hey Thea, how are you?"
7.  I love watching great tourney fighters.  [livejournal.com profile] american_knight was a particular pleasure to watch on Wednesday for the brief time I got to watch.
8. My Artemisian peeps, and especially my campmates and kitchen hosts completely ROCKED my world during this war.  They were constantly helping me and offering help, and making life so nice in so many ways.
9. [livejournal.com profile] scribe_ari  and [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan  were awesome camp neighbors.  They were incredibly thoughtful and took a lot of time to make the area around my tent less mucky, a detail for which I was grateful for the whole week.
10.  I missed going to classes again this year.  One of these days, I will get to a class at Estrella.
11.  I loved getting to be part of delivering Lochlan's squire quest with [livejournal.com profile] atensibilla .  Listening to what she said about the SCA being a large extended family, and watching Lochlan complete the quest both were things that reminded me of the beauty of the SCA.    That moment of delivering the quest is one of my all time favorite SCA moments.  Ever.
12.  I realized I have been getting a little jaded, and tried to take the opportunities to see the beauty in the game we play.
13.  It is a blessing and a curse to have a more global persepctive about the SCA.  I am not always sure if it is a good thing to see the big picture.
14.  I actually went to some of the parties this year.  The Outlands party was a hoot, and the West/An Tir party was a bunch of cool people.
15.  We had a "back-in-the-day" moment when Tearlach and Ty and I were hanging out at the West/An Tir party.  It was great to catch up with them a bit.
16.  It is really great to see so many of my guy friends being so settled and happy (TY is going to be a DAD!)
17. It got really freaking cold at night.  Come to find out one of those nights was 25 degrees.   And yet, I survived.
18.  I finally think I have managed to get the camping needs figured out.  There was not really a time that I was missing anything, and I used the majority of the things I brought.
19.  I did not drink the booze I brought.  Again.  I don't know why I bothered buying any.  I am not a big drinker.
20. Getting to speak at Raven's knighting was an amazing moment in time.  His ceremony (including the parts that were done outside of court) was pretty awe inspiring.  It has been a pleasure to get to know him over the years and watch him grow up.
21.  I love seeing other people finding their niche in the SCA.  I saw that happen several times over the course of the week.
22.  I went to my first Estrella Grand Court.
23.  Singing the Artemisian Anthem and watching Tianna on the dragon was an awesome way to start Grand Court.
24.  It was a great ego boost to be told that people would support me if I decide to do royal liaison again, and had several people say they would like to work with me if I do it again.
25.  I am glad to be home safe and sound.  It was hard to be away from my hubby and home for that long.  (a total of 11 days)

Nice peaceful road trippy goodness *yay*
Need to finish royal packets so they can go to the copy place now.
See those of you that are going at the WAR,
talk to those of you who are not going when I get back to reality.

liife is interesting.

My Crown withdrew Artemisia's acceptance to be a principal Kingdom at Estrella War XXV (2009)  Done deal.  Quite frankly, I am somewhat relieved.  Now we can go to the war, do our thing, and not feel obligated to do more than is possible.  Now I am wondering what will happen next.

I talked to the officers of my Barony at our monthly meeting tonight, and they said they would support putting in a bid for Known World Heralds and Scribes in 2009.  Now I have to find a date and a place in a hurry :)  Salt Lake City has lots of options - the problem is going to be to find a date and the right space.  There are possibilities for side trip options to the Family History library and other things like the super cool Salt Lake Main Library.

I have scribal assignments and sewing projects galore.  I need to clean my garage, and my house.  And there is a local day event this weekend.

Thank goodness the 24th of July is a state holiday, and I get the 25th off too.  Four day weekend to regroup and figure out what the priorities are.

OHHHH   and I am going to figure out what can be done for my left eye.  I have a condition called keratoconus, which is basically a horribly misshapen cornea.  I am legally blind in that eye.  I have an appointment with Dr. Hoopes (who is considered to be one of the top eye surgeons in the country) on Thursday to talk about my options.  My friend Danny, who had the same condition only in both of his eyes, has said great things about his surgery experience there.  So I will know what can be done, and it could be a lot of options up to and maybe including corneal transplant.  I am actually encouraged that his clinic is known for having the latest treatments available, so we will see what happens.

has anyone read  "Estrella War Principal Kingdom Benefits and Responsibilities".?

It is posted  from a link that can be found here:  http://www.estrellawar.org/EstrellaWarTreaty/PrincipalKingdomsAndRoyalty.aspx

As one of the populace of a (usually) Principal Kingdom, I find it interesting.

Ciao for now - time for fighter practice.
dametheadee: (Default)

I went. I was there for a total of **nine** days, and that was a long time.

So, the high points (yes there were some)...

The not so high points....

So another Estrella has come and gone. An Tir and the West have agreed to be our allies next year. And I am already making plans for things to make the Royal Liaison job super cool and super fun.

Now I am back to the day to day - work at my job that pays the bills, and doing Seneschal type stuff. Life definitely goes on.......

Yes, it really is 4:20 in the morning.  I have not been to sleep yet.  "Why?", you may ask?  Well, you see, I went to Costco at 7pm and bought 540 large eggs to be neatly blended with cheese and milk and salt and pepper (and some with crumbled bacon) to make scrambled eggs that will be frozen uncooked, vacuum sealed with a seal-a-meal, put on dry ice in a cooler, and taken to Estrella War for the Kingdom breakfast.

Why me?  Because I volunteer.

I finally got enough of the eggs done and in the freezer, and the rest of the unprepped eggs and other goodies  in the fridge, so I could stop.  I have prepped over half of them.

So, why do I committ such insanity?

Because I want people to be able to come together to have a hopefully extra-cool moment while they are at the War.  It is not important to me that people know I stayed up almost all night prepping eggs. It is important to me to try to build a sense of community among the Artemisians that go to Estrella.

There are nearly 300 people registered to camp.  I am hoping we will have a decent showing.

I am excited about the War this year.  I think things are going to be amazingly good.

Sleep time, now.  More about eggs later.
